What is the Hub?
The HUB provides more immediate and responsive supports to PCSS students, two mornings per week. The program supports students who are struggling with social/affective behaviours and mental/physical health challenges that are negatively impacting their lives. The HUB is staffed by counsellors, as well as a public health nurse one day and a physician the next. The Hub has a designated medical examination room on site and a refurbished counselling area to serve students.
The senior leadership group of SD8 has provided financial support by funding additional VCS Youth Outreach workers and an additional school- based counsellor at PCSS. The Hub has also received funding from the Gleaners Society in Creston. The HUB is supported by a broad and inclusive collection of agencies and individuals, among them; Valley Community Services (VCS), East Kootenay Addictions Society, university researchers, local physicians, Public Health and of course, SD8. It is important to note many other Creston and area service organizations and community professionals have supported this project. The Hub opened on February 15th and has been well received by students and staff alike. Please join us to celebrate this collaborative community project.
