Homelinks Vision:
"We are a community of families, students, teachers and school district staff committed to developing and delivering individualized distributed learning programs that will build success for each student and respect the values and priorities of each family."
School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) offers several distributed learning options (both electronic and paper) to students and families who choose to learn at a distance, rather than in a traditional classroom setting. These K-12 programs, described in more detail on the "Programs" pages of this website, are individually tailored to meet each child and family's educational needs wherever possible. Grade 8-12 academic courses are also available to adults who wish to complete their adult high school graduation diploma. Because Homelinks is a community-based program, enrollment is available only to students in School District 8 (Kootenay Lake).
At Homelinks, we respect the parent's choice to have their children educated at home and to educate the "whole child" in this learning environment. Our teachers work with parents and students to create an educational program for each child and oversee the student's progress, modifying the plan when necessary. The teacher is responsible for instructional choices, assessment and reporting. The parent's role is as facilitator for student learning. We acknowledge that the needs of each child are different and recognize a diverse set of approaches to a child's education may be required. Unique student learning plans will be crafted for each child and learning resources will be made available to support each student. Homelinks supports and encourages flexibility in the choice of curriculum materials, assessment practices and learning activities for each student.
