Grade 8-9 Cohort Program

Grade 8-9 Cohort Program

This program is a blend of face-to-face and at-home learning.  Students who enrol in this program commit to participating in face-to-face learning at school 2 days per week and at-home learning 3 days per week.  This teacher lead programming focuses on place-based and project-based learning.  Students are supervised by a BC certified teacher and will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers.  The Grade 8/9 Cohort program runs from September 13th 2022 to May 31st 2023.

  • Projects and Field trips: This year was fun, we went skiing, stayed overnight at Forte Steele, helped plant a wildflower pollinators’ garden, and presented our entrepreneurial ideas to our local business sharks. We are hoping that field trips and projects will be more regular and spread throughout the next school year. To avoid being too repetitive, this year’s projects will be different but will still include STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math), an entrepreneurship project, and more.
  • Academics: Again, we plan to continue a blended program of learning. My goal for the 8/9 group is to have the teacher and parents’ shared role as educators better defined and organized. We will share the responsibilities for delivering all the required subjects, including English, Math, Science, Social Studies, ADST, Art, Careers and PEH. Some will be done through coursework, others through project work, and there will continue to be work done in-class and at home, though we will define these better for this year.
