It's my pleasure to share this month's happenings across our school communities. Throughout the early fall months, students have engaged in a wide variety of learning activities and events from marking Métis Awareness Month at W.E.

SD8 students from kindergarten to grade 12 as well as families and staff are one month into the school year and settling into the rhythm of a new season, new classrooms, new and returning classmates and so much energy and enthusiasm as thousands of learning journeys are underway.

The school year is coming to a close in a few weeks and hundreds of high school graduates across our district will reach out their hands to accept their Certificate of Graduation or B.C. “Dogwood diploma.”

This past month has been a flurry of physical, intellectual, social and emotional learning in our six families of schools as students engaged in activities that stretched their skills, and exercised their understanding, leading us toward our upcoming spring break from March 18 to April 1.

We are nearing the 100th day of school and in primary grades, this is an important day of learning! All of our students are about halfway through the year, many have begun second semester, and everyone is in full learning mode in their classrooms, outdoors and in their communities.

Midwinter is upon us - a time when SD8 students and educators look forward to sharing and showing what children have learned and the talents they have developed in the first half of the school year.

Welcome to the fall. You’ll notice that like the leaves on the trees in late-September and early October, this issue of the Superintendent’s Report looks a bit different than it did a few months ago.

A warm welcome to September and to the 2023-2024 school year. I am pleased to welcome every one of our more than 4700 students and each family whose child or children have embarked on what may be a first or a next chapter of their educational journey within School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake).

Another school year is coming to completion - June is one of the most exciting months of the year for everyone in SD8.
