Lenora Trenaman Re-elected Board Chair and Dawn Lang Elected Vice-Chair

The School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Board of Education elected their new chair and vice-chair at the inaugural board meeting held November 8 in Nelson. Lenora Trenaman has been relected chair, a title she has held consecutively since 2005 except for one year in 2014. Dawn Lang is serving her first term as vice-chair and has served as an SD8 trustee since 2008. Trustees elect a board chair and vice-chair annually, and school trustees are elected every four years.

Taking Flight

Homelinks Grade 10 cohort students have been building remote control airplanes with Grade 11 student Troy Rast who took the lead on this project. Over the past couple of months students worked through the design process conceptualizing, designing, prototyping, testing and improving their aircraft over and over again.

School Bus Drivers Wanted - Make A Difference in Your Community

When James Beaudoin goes to work each morning in Nelson to pick up his school bus, he knows that he is directly supporting a child’s education, social and physical well being.

“Being a bus driver is an important job, and the feeling of being needed and helping my community is very fulfilling. In some cases, we are the first smile that a child will see at the start of their day. Without our support, many kids would have a lot of roadblocks in the way to get to school.”
