Homelinks Business Fair

There are some excited young entrepreneurs preparing their wares to share with the community on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This will be the fifth annual iteration of a well-loved event that fills the Creston Room upstairs at the Recreation Centre. For an inside look at the preparation process, as well as past events, community testimonials, and media spotlights, the website offers an inspiring picture of all that goes into the big day.

SD8 Creston Homelinks coordinating teacher Kristina Leidums shares that this year there will be fifty children from K–12 representing between 35 and 40 businesses. As she explains, “There is a really collaborative spirit to it all, with a lot of family support for the young entrepreneurs, and a sense of excitement and sharing among the kids.” Although participation is optional, a high percentage of Homelinks students and families take part each year, with some SD8 Wildflower learners also joining in. Kristina highlights that families appreciate how accessible the business fair is by offering a clear outlet for kids who are interested in entrepreneurship.

The first Homelinks Student Business Fair took place in 2020, inspired by the Acton Business Fair. As a learning opportunity, educators celebrate entrepreneurship for its interdisciplinary nature, connecting creativity, mathematical skills, communication, and more. It is also deeply meaningful on a personal level, as students commit to an idea and see it through with the imagination and discipline that requires. Students clearly value the experience for both the challenge and the fun—they often participate once and immediately begin planning for the following year. Whether success means selling out of a product or discovering something to refine for next time, there is a real sense of pride in what is accomplished.
